Soy & Fertility

From ages 11 - 32, I was a vegetarian and soy was my protein staple.

I later experienced thyroid problems, which I believe was correlated with my hefty consumption of soy products for so many years. In addition to disrupting thyroid hormones, which are crucial for conceiving, studies have also shown that a high intake of the phytoestrogens found in soy increases rates of infertility and miscarriage. To make matters even worse, over 90% of soy found in the United States is genetically modified and contains large amounts of herbicides and pesticides. Even organic soy often contains these toxins due to contamination by conventional crops from wind and runoff. Glyphosate is the primary herbicide that is found on conventional and organic soy crops. Exposure to glyphosate has been linked to infertility and birth defects.

Although fermented soy can be less problematic, I stay away from foods that contain soy in any form to protect my health and fertility.
