These simple OPK strips can be used to detect a surge in the production of luteinizing hormone (LH), which occurs around 24 – 36 hours before ovulation. Having sex during this surge will increase your odds of conceiving. While sperm can live up to 5 days inside a woman’s body, once an egg is released during ovulation, it will only survive for about 24 hours. As such, it is generally recommended to have unprotected sex BEFORE ovulation.
When trying to conceive, I start using OPKs around day 9 or 10 of my cycle to ensure I don’t miss the LH surge. For most women the surge happens around days 11 – 14.
As I prepare for a second round of trying to conceive, I am using @mirafertility to track my cycle. Mira gives me a precise reading with numeric LH and estrogen levels. The results are 99% accurate!
